The 2016 Seattle International Film Festival is finally here and I have scoured the lineup of almost 500 films (features, shorts, and documentaries) to see which movies are the ones I really need to see. Recently, I had a chance to see Seijun Suzuki's classic stylized thriller Tokyo Drifter at Seattle's Northwest Film Forum as they prepared to show this and other films directed by Mr. Suzuki as part of a Seijun Suzuki Retrospective film series. You can see Tokyo Drifter at the Northwest Film Form's Capitol Hill theaters on Wednesday May 4th at 7:30pm.
Demoliton is a film by Jean-Marc Vallée whose previous work includes Wild and Dallas Buyers Club, both of which were nominated for many awards. This movie about a man who needs to tear his life apart before recovering from his wife's sudden death features acting performances from Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper, Judah Lewis, C.J. Wilson, and Polly Draper.
Criminal, directed by Ariel Vromen, is a crime thriller that puts the memories of a murdered CIA operative into a psychopathic killer to help solve a terrorist plot. The film features acting performances by Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gal Gadot.
Everybody Wants Some is the latest film from Richard Linklater (Boyhood) and follows the exploits of an early 80's college baseball team as they enjoy their first few days of the school year. The cast of the film includes Blake Jenner, Justin Street, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell, Glenn Powell, and Zoey Deutch.
Barbershop: The Next Cut, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, continues the comedic adventures that take place inside a South Chicago neighborhood barbershop where history, race, politics, relationships, and gang violence are all part of daily life. The film features acting performances by Ice Cube, Common, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Eve, JD Smoove, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Nicki Minaj.
The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau, is a live action and CGI re-imagining of the classic tale about Mowgli, a young boy raised by animals in the jungle. My adventures at the 2016 Emerald City Comicon can officially be considered a success and, after spending four days taking photos, watching panels, talking to people, making new friends, and enjoying the organized chaos and delightful atmosphere, this event provides, I have compiled a record of my experience for you enjoyment.
The final day of the Emerald City Comicon is always a mixed bag of emotions as attendees are tired, excited, happy to be there, and sad that it's almost over, all at the same time. For me, this was a day to get photos, talk to vendors, and make a few purchases before the doors closed and another year of fun would come to an end.
My schedule for day three of the 2016 Emerald City Comicon was a little less hectic allowed for more time to just roam around so I could focus on absorbing all the fun happening all around me. This is also the busiest day so navigating traffic, lines, and panel scheduling also becomes more of a concern than any other day and your ability plan and pace yourself really comes into play in helping to make it a success.
Day two of my 2016 Emerald City Comicon adventure can definitely be considered a success as I got to do everything I wanted to and even saw a few friends along the way. This was a much more important day for panels and will probably be the biggest out of the four day weekend as my focus turns to cosplay photos and potential shopping.

I had a chance to attend the "Dark Horse Comics and Twentieth Century Fox: A Relationship Spanning Universes" panel which featured a sneak peak and information about a project that will bring the two companies even closer together as a creative force in comics.
