Snitch - Movie Review

When its noted that a movie is "based on a true story", you should definitely take that as a very loose definition. Sure, Snitch is rooted in fact, but director Ric Roman Waugh also pushes those boundaries quite a bit to turn an interesting story in to what becomes a more thrilling adventure involving drug cartels and highb speed car chases.

Jack the Giant Slayer - Movie Review

Bryan Singer is best known for directing the first three X-Men movies which were all wildly successful entries into the cinematic super hero genre. Now he is taking a giant leap into fairy tale land by turning the classic story of a young boy who stumbles upon some magic beans and turns it into an epic adventure in Jack the Giant Slayer.

2013 Academy Awards - Prediction Special

Welcome to the TwoOhSix.com second annual
Academy Awards Prediction Special!

This is my second attempt at picking the winners of those famous gold "Oscar" trophies and I look forward to seeing who actually walks away with them. I  have only included categories where I feel I can make a good decision while leaving out ones where I would only be guessing.

You will see the nominees for each category along with who I feel will ultimately win although you will not see who I feel is the most deserving of the awards. Those announcements will be saved for another post.

Dark Skies - Movie Review

Paranormal Activity. Insidious. Dark Skies. This lineage of horror movies has been put out by a team of producers seemingly bent on scaring the crap out of audiences all over the world. Writer and director Scott Stewart takes a decidedly different approach with this movie than his previous effects driven efforts Priest and Legion.

Safe Haven - Movie Review

Safe Haven is being released during the Valentine's holiday weekend to capitalize on movie goers looking for an appropriately sappy date movie to cap off their night's festivities. A Good Day to Die Hard - Movie Review

Fans of the Die Hard franchise will be very happy to see Bruce Willis back for another turn as John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard. Meanwhile, director John Moore is most likely hoping the iconic action hero can keep his latest effort from being as much of a total disaster as his last movie (2008's Max Payne) was.

Escape from Planet Earth - Movie Review

While the Weinstein Company is best known for releasing Quentin Tarantino films, they actually have a very diverse roster of movies that now includes an entry into the very competitive animated feature category. Escape from Planet Earth has a solid roster of voice talent as well as a full complement of all the latest technological bells and whistles that go in to making modern cartoons.

Identity Thief - Movie Review

Director Seth Gordon is hoping to have as at least much success with his latest effort, Identity Thief, as he did with Horrible Bosses, his surprise hit from 2011. Reuniting with Jason Bateman and pairing him up with the outrageous antics of Melissa McCarthy is definitely a step in the right direction, but the key to any successful comedy is being able to combine all the gut busting moments with a story that keeps it from becoming a series of sketches that never add up to anything worthwhile.

Beautiful Creatures - Movie Review

Beautiful Creatures is a movie adapted for the screen from a popular novel written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Director Richard LaGravenese had a tall task ahead of him in pleasing hardcore fans of the book while looking to draw in a new audience all while putting relatively unknown actors, Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich in the lead roles of Lena Duchannes and Ethan Wate respectively.

Side Effects - Movie Review

Over the last year and a half, Steven Soderbergh has released three very distinct movies (Haywire, Magic Mike, and Contagion), all of which received a fair amount of both criticism and acclaim. With Side Effects, the director goes boldly in to the world of the pharmaceutical industry and creates a thriller with so many twists and turns, you may feel like you need a prescription yourself to figure it all out.

Star Wars: The Map

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away a whole bunch of stuff happened across many planets and several star systems. There was talk of trade routes, mentions of far off regions, and a core section of colonies and planets that held most of the galaxy's inhabitants.

Have you ever wondered how all these planets and systems would be laid out across the now famous fictional galaxy that George Lucas first imagined back in the early 70's? Well, now you can see for yourself thanks to an amazing map that was posted on DiscoveryNews.com.

The Impossible - Movie Review

Based on an incredible true story of survival, The Impossible shows how a devastating natural disaster can test the will of a family on the most basic level of survival. Director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) does his best to recreate the devastation of the 2004 Thailand tsunami while Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor turn in powerful performances as vacationing couple Maria and Henry.
