Welcome to Mercy - 2018 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival Review

The Movie: Welcome to Mercy

The Director: Tommy Bertelsen

The Cast: Kristen Ruhlin, Lily Newmark, Eileen Davies, Eva Ariel Binder, Ieva Seglina, Victoria Sokolovam, Toms Liepajnieks

The Story: When a single mother begins to experience symptoms of the stigmata, she seeks the help of a local priest and nun to help her understand what is seen and unseen.

The Review:
If you like your horror films to come with an extra helping of religiously themed creepiness then Welcome to Mercy is definitely the movie for you. Any time you put a potentially possessed woman together with a convent full of nuns who don't seem to be upholding their holy ideals, you know something sinister is lurking down that darkened hall or around that dimly lit corner of the hallway.

Director Tommy Bertelsen along with writer and star Kristen Ruhlin give us some of that old time religion and the duo comes away with a far more effective feature than many of its recent mainstream counterparts. From the opening moments, there is an unease and emotional tension that will make you feel like you're the one who might need an exorcism so turn down the lights, hold on tight, and get ready for a religious experience you may not be ready for.

Welcome to Mercy is an official selection of the 2018 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.
