Waves - Movie Review

The Movie: Waves

The Director: Trey Edward Shults

The Cast: Taylor Russell, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Alexa Demie, Sterling K. Brown, Lucas Hedges

The Story: Traces the journey of a suburban family - led by a well-intentioned but domineering father - as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.

The Review:
A few months ago, I had no idea this movie existed. Over the last month, it started to get lots of buzz as an awards season contender. Last night, I finally sat down and watched the movie which is sort of a snapshot at what happens to a family as they deal with tragedy. While the movie featured some strong performances and it looks really slick and glossy, the story did absolutely nothing for me and wasn't able to keep me engaged for any length of time. Other than this big tragic moment, nothing really happens and the narrative doesn't lead anywhere important or significant.
