I Lost My Body - Movie Review

The Movie: I Lost My Body

The Director: Jérémy Clapin

The Cast: Hakim Faris, Victoire Du Bois, Patrick d'Assumçao, Hichem Mesbah, Myriam Loucif, Bellamine Abdelmalek

The Story: A story of Naoufel, a young man who is in love with Gabrielle. In another part of town, a severed hand escapes from a dissection lab, determined to find its body again.

The Review:
This is a very unique movie told in a very unique way. The animation style is pretty straight forward which I feel is essential to allow the viewer a clean path into following the story. The movie begins with a young man having just had his hand chopped off in what seems like an accident and then splits into two stories that weave together, one being the severed hand trying to get back to its owner from the hospital and the other backs up a ways and leads back to the incident itself.

Yes, this sounds real weird I get it and especially since the hand is sort of on a hero's journey while the young man is experiencing a true coming of age experience and somehow it all makes perfect sense. There is a love story thrown in as well as part of the boy's coming of age tale and the beginning moments of it are pretty freaking brilliant although I would say it doesn't really go very far after that and falls into predictable territory.

I liked the movie although didn't feel like it was anything special or noteworthy even with it's unique story telling ideas. I Lost My Body is definitely worth a look if you're trying to find something on Netflix that's a bit off the beaten path.
