The Place - SIFF 2018 Capsule Review

The Movie: The Place

The Director: Paolo Genovese

The Cast: Valerio Mastandrea, Marco Giallini, Alba Rorhwarcher, Vittoria Puccini, Rocco Papaleo

The Story: The fates of an apparently random group of strangers who each come into contact with a mysterious figure who they believe possesses the power to grant any wish, in return for which they must carry out a task he assigns them.

The Review:
Paolo Genovese takes a very intimate look into what motivates people to want certain things, to behave certain ways, and to make certain decisions all while being given choices and opportunities they may not have been expecting. In the lead role Valerio Mastandrea carries the picture from start to finish as the rest of the cast weaves in and out of the story. There aren't any major highs or lows to the films pacing although there are plenty of twists and turns to hold your attention.

The Place is an official selection of the 2018 Seattle International Film Festival.
