Streaker (Flitzer) - SIFF 2018 Movie Review

Movie Review: Streaker (Flitzer)

The Director: Peter Luisi

The Cast: Beat Schlatter, Doro Müggler, Bendrit Bajra, Luna Wedler, Daniel Mangisch

The Story: In order to get out of a financial crisis, high school teacher Balz Naef starts recruiting and training streakers for illegal sports betting.

The Review:
A movie about streaking is, of course, going to be a comedy and director Peter Luisi makes sure there are plenty of laughs from beginning to end. Even with a higher than average body count when it comes to the on screen nudity, the tone of the film is actually very sweet and has a silly innocence that is about as endearing as can be. The story is pretty straight forward and doesn't do anything I wasn't expecting, but it still kept my attention and had me invested in how things would turn out.

Beat Schlatter, a long time veteran of Swedish cinema, plays the lead role and deftly handles the transformation of a character who goes from being humbled and lost to ambitious and motivated. Luna Wedler plays Schlatter's on screen daughter and, while her role is very small and creatively limited, her screen presence alone makes it easy to see why she was chosen as the lead in Blue My Mind, another recent film from Sweden.

The Verdict:
Streaker is a super fun sports comedy that bares all and lets the cast show you everything they have. The outrageous training montage on its own is worth the price of admission but the feel good story is what makes this movie a safe bet at the box office.

Streaker is an official selection of the 2018 Seattle International Film Festival.
