Midsommar - Movie Review

The Movie: Midsommar

The Director: Ari Aster

The Cast: Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Will Poulter, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, Anders Back, Mats Blomgren

The Story: Americans go to Sweden and find unexpected fun at an isolated commune.

The Review:
This movie falls just short of a two and a half hour run time. The same story could have been told in about an hour complete with all of the subtext, allegory, and messaging that Ari Aster took way too long to show us. This is where people are going to say I just didn't get it but you know what; I got it, I just didn't care. I wasn't entertained. At all. The movie is more melodrama than horror, but there's a couple flashes of gore and lots of screaming so I guess it qualifies.

I love Florence Pugh but watching her have an anxiety attack for two hours didn't do much for me unfortunately. The good news is that, after watching this movie, I still love Florence Pugh.

One last thought. Through the entire movie, I kept asking myself is that Jack Reynor or is that Seth Rogen. The weirder it got for Reynor's character the more he turned into Seth Rogen.  Did anyone else notice that?
