Nightmare Cinema - SIFF 2019 Capsule Review

The Movie: Nightmare Cinema

The Directors: Joe Dante, Alejandro Brugués, Mick Garris, Ryûhei Kitamura, David Slade

The Cast: Mickey Rourke, Patrick Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser, Richard Chamberlain, Annabeth Gish

The Story: Five strangers converge at a haunted movie theater owned by The Projectionist.

The Review:
This five part horror anthology has a very retro, late night, cable TV vibe to it and it quickly becomes apparent that you don't want to take any of it too seriously. Some segments are better than others and all rely on tried and true tropes and standard devices of the horror genre making it a fairly entertaining watch for fans of these sorts of things.

Nightmare Cinema is an official selection of the 2019 Seattle International Film Festival.

Deadtectives - SIFF 2019 Capsule Review

The Movie: Deadtectives

The Director: Tony West

The Cast: Chris Geere, Martha Higareda, Tina Ivlev, David Newman, José María de Tavira

The Story: Fake paranormal investigators run into real paranormal activity.

The Review:
What a debut feature for writer/director Tony Smith! This movie is so much fun and, while the focus is on the non stop barrage of comedic hi-jinks, there are several genuine scares thrown in to keep you on the edge of your seat. This may look like a Ghostbusters knockoff but the Deadtectives hold their own with a super fun, fast paced, and irresistibly creative origin story.
