TwoOhSix Picks - Cinerama Film Festivals

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the Seattle Cinerama had a seemingly endless supply of classic movies and blockbuster hits playing for over a month? Those thoughts and dreams are now a reality with the upcoming Sound and Vision Film Festival, Summer Rewind Film Festival, and the fan favorite 70mm Film Festival. Yes, it's true. The Cinerama is about to take all of our money.

The Sound and Vision Film Festival is something the Cinerama has never done before so this might be the most exciting of the three festivals for me. Basically, they have put together a selection of films that are known for their visual and/or audio excellence giving the Cinerama to maximize the amazing technological experience they offer each and every night.

Here's a breakdown of the films I am most looking forward to seeing during this festival.

Mad Max: Fury Road (Black and Chrome) - If you haven't seen this version of George Miller's amazing movie, then this should definitely be on your list. I will watch this movie at the Cinerama every single time, no matter what version they play. The movie itself is that good and seeing Miller's black and white version is just stunning on the Cinerama screen.

Gravity (3D) - The first time I saw this movie, I was absolutely stunned by the visual feast that Alfonso Cuarón put on screen. And then I watched it at the Cinerama. (insert mind blown meme)

Purple Rain - I recently saw this in the theater for the first time ever and was blown away watching Prince, The Revolution, The Time, and all the other musical performances with that big theater sound. The Cinerama has one of the most state of the art, custom built sound systems in the world.

Wall-E - It's not often you get a chance to see one of Pixar's best features in a theater like the Cinerama. Visually, this is one of their best efforts to date and seems custom built for the Cinerama experience.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (4K Restoration) - This has always been one of my favorite movies and I don't believe I have ever watched it in a movie theater so having a chance to see a 4K restoration at the Cinerama might just be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Annihilation - If you've only ever watched this movie at home on Netflix then you haven't really seen the beauty and detail of Alex Garland's latest science fiction effort. Also, the cast is fantastic with Natalie Portman leading the way alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, and Gina Rodriguez.

A Quiet Place -  While I enjoyed this movie, I wasn't as over the moon with it as a lot of people were so I am excited to give it another chance with the Cinerama's custom built Dolby Atmos sound system.

Howard the Duck - Yes, this is widely considered to be a bad movie, but I remember it fondly and there's no way I'm not going to miss out on seeing it at the Cinerama. Also, since Howard does make a cameo appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, could this be considered the first MCU movie ever made?

Lawrence of Arabia - Quite simply one of the greatest movies ever made and yo should watch it every time the Cinerama puts it on their screen. Especially during the 70mm film festival.

Days of Thunder / Top Gun - I would say these are two of Tom Cruise's most iconic roles, but aren't they all? This movie could easily have taken a spot in the Sound and Vision film festival as I can just imagine all the thundering race car and fighter jet audio making people's heads explode. Hopefully not literally.

Wonder Woman - Because it's Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. At the Cinerama. In 70mm format.

I was trying to pick one more but, you know what. Just go see all of them. You can't go wrong!

Tickets for all three festivals are available now on cinerama.com.
