Complete Unknown (SIFF 2016) - Movie Review

The Movie: Complete Unknown

The Director: Joshua Marston

The Cast: Rachel Weisz, Michael Shannon, Michael Chernus, Condola Rashad, Kathy Bates, and Danny Glover

The Story: As a man contemplates moving to a new state with his wife for her graduate program, an old flame - a woman who often changes identities - reenters his life at a birthday dinner party.

The Review:
This was a very strange story and I'm not quite sure it ever really knew what it was trying to be. It felt like a thriller but wasn't very thrilling, it was too awkward and creepy to be any kind of love story, and the drama was really not very dramatic. The idea of the story is pretty interesting, I just don't think it was fleshed out nearly as well as it could have been. That being said, it was still a pleasure to watch both Weisz and Shannon do what they do best and, if it hadn't been for their performances, I'm not sure if I would have made it through the whole movie.
