Minions - Movie Review

Minions is an animated feature film by Illumination Studios. The movie was directed by Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin and features the voice talents of Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Jennifer Saunders, Geoffrey Rush, Steve Carell, and Pierre Coffin.

The Story:
The Minions who have been serving under Gru (Carell), a despicable super villain, have had many masters and this is the tale of how they have evolved over time. After many failed attempts at finding an evil master to call their own, they finally discover the one and only Scarlett Overkill (Bullock) who in turn enlists their aid for a big time evil plot she is about to hatch. While the Minions mean well and have the best of intentions, their results don't always end up being what was desired or expected which leads to many mishaps and adventures along their way to becoming the best henchman any super villain could ever ask for.

The Verdict:
Both of the Despicable Me movies are really well done and one of the reasons for that is the inclusion of Gru's minions as comic relief. Making a whole movie about these bumbling and gibberish talking little guys seems a bit excessive and the end result turns out to be just that. Maybe kids will enjoy watching an hour and a half of repetitive humor and animation cliches. For the most part, Minions is mildly entertaining, but really just ends up being unnecessary and forgettable.

I did not watch the movie in 3D so no opinion there. Animation usually translates well so, if you're willing to drop the extra cash, I'd say go for it.
