Marvel movie fans around the world can now breathe a collective sigh of relief as Mr. Robert Downey Jr has officially signed on to play Tony Stark aka Iron Man in both The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.
After months of speculation that was fueled even more by the recent success of Iron Man 3, the announcement was made today on the official Marvel website (HERE). It is also interesting to note how the two Avengers movies are cited specifically with no mention of another Iron Man movie or any other upcoming Marvel title.
This sort of makes you wonder if Tony Stark will begin taking a back seat to other Marvel characters as we move through Phase 2 and on into Phase 3 of Marvel's plans. Either way, its nice to know that we will have RDJ playing the role for at least two more movies.
The Avengers 2 is scheduled to be released in May of 2015 and The Avengers 3 in May of 2017. Both movies will be directed by Joss Whedon and will be released by Marvel Studios.
