TheTwohSix Top Ten Favorite Movies of 2024

2024 was all over the place when it came to what cinemas had to offer, especially with the industry being in the middle of a very shaky transition to more and more movies being sent to streaming platforms rather than getting proper theatrical releases. To me it feels like quality has taken a back seat to quantity as these major media companies scramble to recoup investments and prove that they can sustain a profitable business model. That being said, I feel like this was the most difficult year ever to come up with ten solid entires into my year end favorites list and yet each of the ones I have chosen absolutely deserve their place.

  1. Sing Sing
    • Sing Sing is one of those movies that defies the passage of time. You get so drawn in to the story and characters that you forget the rest of the world exists and that's what the magic of cinema is really all about. Creating experiences and moments and works of art that inspire as much as they entertain. - FULL REVIEW
  2. Wicked
    • This is what the theatrical experience is all about. Director Jon Chu absolutely nails every aspect of putting this movie on the big screen and the two leads, Arian Grande and Cynthia Arivo, are just pure magic from start to finish. This movie is guaranteed to put a spell on anyone who watches it.
  3. Immaculate
    • As this movie dives headfirst into its final, mind blowing moments, Sweeney steps up her game even more and delivers an ending that will be remembered and talked about for quite some time. - FULL REVIEW
  4. The Wild Robot
    • Quite simply one of the best animated movies I have seen in a long time. Everything about this movie is just so good, please see it as soon as possible.
  5. Inside Out 2
    • Pixar is so on point with these movies and how they explore emotions and the inner workings of our brains. All of it is so relatable and the way anxiety is portrayed on screen is so spot on perfect, it's kind of scary and kind of brilliant at the same time.
  6. Alien: Romulus
    • Romulus is one of the most fun and most intense movies I have seen in quite some time and I mean from start to finish. I love how Alvarez really understands the look and tone and textures of this universe and it just feels like a science fiction movie should feel. - FULL REVIEW
  7. The Substance
    • After debuting with the absolutely stunning Revenge, now she comes back with this brilliant exploration of body image and toxic culture and gender expectations and so much more, director Coralie Fargeat needs to keep making movies, like lots of them.
  8. Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story
    • To this day, the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve is one of my all time favorite films so it was very interesting learning about Mr. Reeve and the struggles he dealt with over the course of his life. This is a very well told story of true heroism.
  9. Deadpool & Wolverine
    • I'm glad this movie turned out to be one of friendship, chosen family, and heroism. Even with the onslaught of Deadpool antics, the comedy is also very self aware, at times really smart, and nothing is sacred which is where most of the biggest laughs came from. - FULL REVIEW
  10. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
    • I would say this is yet another successful installment in the Mad Max franchise and I'm curious to see if the adventure will move forward or what Miller might have in store next. Either way, I'll be there, ready for glory on my way to Valhalla and wondering if it will be epic. - FULL REVIEW
