Going to Brazil (SIFF 2017) - Movie Review

The Movie: Going to Brazil

The Director: Patrick Mille

The Cast: Alison Wheeler, Vanessa Guide, Margot Bancilhon, Philippine Stindel, Patrick Mille

The Story: Four childhood friends reunite for a wedding in Rio, only to find themselves on the run through the Brazilian countryside after accidentally killing someone at a drug-fueled party.

The Review:
So, this is a French film set in Brazil and it is filled with beautiful women, outrageous parties, guns, drugs, alcohol, car chases, and more than enough outrageous comedy to go around. That statement alone should make you want to see it, but of course I'm not going to stop there. While you will see a lot of comparisons to The Hangover, this movie also has more than enough originality to stand on its own and Director Patrick Mille has filled the story with a bunch of fun twists and turns.

Now, you may be wondering if the four female characters have any substance to them, or are they just a quartet of pretty faces thrown in to look good on screen. I would argue that with the fact that there is a ton of backstory that gets explored between the women as they are life long friends and two of them are sisters. They are each dealing with some pretty serious personal issues and that depth of character helps to create some really strong moments between them.

The Verdict:
Going to Brazil is a lot of fun. It's wild, it's crazy, and it's probably one of the craziest adventures you will watch this year. Definitely a movie you don't want to miss.

Going to Brazil is an official selection of the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival.
