The Story: Two strangers find themselves linked in a bizarre way. When a connection forms, will distance be the only thing to keep them apart?

The Review:
I had been hearing about this movie for several months and finally had a chance to see it during it's limited release here in the U.S. Makoto Shinkai, as both writer and director, has created a beautiful piece of art that really speaks to some of our most basic emotions as human beings. The story is funny, dramatic, romantic, heart warming, heart wrenching, and it will definitely tug at your emotions before it is done with you. It's hard to really go very far into telling you about the story because there are a couple key plot reveals early on that set everything up and I wouldn't want to spoil any of those surprises.

The animation has a very classic look to it and is absolutely beautiful as it shows off  the impressive wonder that is the city of Tokyo as well as some really breathtaking views of a small village and the surrounding rural area that it inhabits. The two main characters each populate these two distinct environments and the visual contrast between the two is perfectly rendered to match who they are as people. It's really fun to see how they end up interacting with each other based on the differences in how they see the world and the progress they make together while also being so far apart (again, not able to explain) is the core of what makes this story so good.

The Review:
Your Name is an extremely well made and entertaining animated movie. I am not super knowledgeable about the anime genre although I can definitely see why this film has been such a huge success around the world.
