The Review:
This movie kind of snuck up on me, but it looked really fun so when I saw it was playing at one of the local theaters, I had to check it out. Stephen Phung has basically created an action heist movie along the lines of the Mission Impossible series with a little bit of Oceans thrown in along with some of that classic 007 swagger. The premise is pretty simple. Andy Lau plays a world class thief who was set up and sent to jail and, now that he is out, must pull off his biggest job yet to set things right.

Lau, is really good, as he always is, and is very believable as an action hero as he goes up against Jean Reno's solid work as a detective who is obsessed with capturing the one man who has always evaded him. The back and forth they have is fun to watch and they play off each other really well. Lau's team members, consisting of Qi Shu and Tony Yo-ning Yang, and also really good and very charismatic in their roles which just adds to the fun and humor of the story. Eric Tsang, best known for his role in Infernal Affairs, also plays a part in the film and he's just as fun to watch as ever.

There are  lot of really good car chases in the movie and the action is pretty much non stop and very well executed. Some of it you have seen before in other films so there's not a ton of originality, but everything is very well put together and never gets too crazy like what we have become accustomed to from the Fast and Furious franchise. I really liked how the action pushes the story forward rather than just being there for the sake of saying, look what we can do! This made for a much more believable adventure and allowed you to stay invested in the characters and the story being told.

The Verdict:
The Adventurers is not a great film but it delivers exactly what you would expect and it's just a really fun movie to watch. The action is fast paced, the story is solid, and the cast looks like they had a great time making this movie. Definitely worth checking out.
