2017 Recap - The Animated Films

So, I only watched five animated films this year which seems kind of weird but the good news is that they were all really, really good. Two of the releases were from Disney's Pixar studios, two were imported from Japan, and the other was a sequel of sorts from the Lego universe. Let's take a look and see how I have them ranked.

There were several movies released during 2017 that I chose not to see or didn't have a chance to see like Despicable Me 3, The Boss Baby, Captain Underpants, The Emoji Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Nut Job 2, Smurfs: The Lost Village, and Ferdinand. Some just didn't appeal to me and other just looked awful. Now, for the ones I did see, they were all really fun and filled with engaging stories that at times really tugged at the heart strings. I have listed them in order of enjoyment from the top to my favorite of the year at the bottom.

Cars 3: There's no denying that this movie should be considered a successful return to glory for one of Pixar's most important franchises.

In this Corner of the World: An important work of art that tells a beautiful story of courage, love, and perseverance. Definitely a must see whether you are a fan of animation, Japanese history, or you just love watching great movies.

The Lego Batman Movie: It's a great animated movie, it's a great comedy, it's a great Lego movie, it's a great super hero movie, and it's also a really, really great Batman story.

Your Name (君の名は。): An extremely well made and entertaining animated movie. I can definitely see why this film has been such a huge success around the world.

Coco: Easily one of Pixar's best movies to date and and one of the best movies of the year. Thank you Pixar for making this movie, it means so much to so many people. Oh, and don't forget to bring along some tissue, you're going to need it.
