Fateful Findings (SIFF 2013) - Movie Review

Fateful Findings is the brainchild of Neil Breen who wrote, produced, directed, acted in, catered, and did just about anything else you can think of to get this movie made. Taking the term "low budget feature" to a new extreme, this movie goes deep into the mind of an author who believes he is about to shock the world with his most recent discovery.

V/H/S 2 (SIFF 2013) - Movie Review

VHS 2 is the follow up to the original film that became an instant cult classic and promises to be even scarier than its predecessor. The first VHS movie created a new twist on the found footage sub genre of horror movies by compiling several short films into one feature length movie with an overarching storyline that ties the whole thing together.

This is the End - Movie Review

Okay, seriously. Look at the poster for This is the End and tell me you don't think its going to be hilarious. For my part, all you have to do is say James Franco and Seth Rogen are in the movie and I'm down to see it. Then you throw in Hill, Baruchel, Robinson, and McBride and my expectation level goes even higher. Add in the fact that Rogen wrote and directed the film with longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg and you now have a formula for success that will not be denied.

The East (SIFF 2013) - Movie Review

Rising Hollywood star Brit Marling not only plays the lead role in The East, but she also co-wrote and helped produce the movie that has so far received nothing but high praise. Director Zal Batmanglij, who also worked with Marling in the 2011 thriller Sound of My Voice, has put together a feature film that feels just as provocative and edgy as the fictional organization it portrays.

The Hangover Part III - Movie Review

The Hangover Part III brings the wolfpack back together for another crazy ride, but this time there is no bachelor party and no one is getting married. This time around writer and director Todd Phillips sends the crew on a mission that brings all of their adventures back full circle. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Ken Jeong all return to their roles and John Goodman joins the cast as a new villain.

Teddy Bears (SIFF 2013) - Movie Review

Teddy Bears is a movie written, produced, and directed, by Thomas Beatty (along with co-director Rebecca Fishman) and features a relatively unknown cast including David Krumholtz, Melanie Lynskey, and Ahna O'Reilly as well as Beatty's own father, Ned Beatty. This is more than your standard tale of love between long time friends as the concept is taken to the extreme when one member of a vacationing group proposes an orgy to help him get through a personal crisis.

Epic (SIFF 2013) - Movie Review

Now that the eco-trilogy of Ferngully, Avatar, and Epic is complete...oh wait...its not a trilogy? Oh. Well, never mind all that. Either way, Epic does fit in nicely as a kid friendly tale that contains a not so subtle message about protecting forests and having respect for nature. Twentieth Century Fox Animation continues its long time collaboration with director Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots) and assembles an all star cast including Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, and Christoph Waltz.

Mud seems to be intended as a vehicle for Matthew McConaughey to flex his acting muscle and further his career as a viable leading man candidate while director Jeff Nichols looks to add another building block to the foundation of his budding career. Sam Sheppard, Reese Witherspoon, and Tye Sheridan also star in a story about man hiding from his ghosts and the two boys who try to help him reclaim a lost love.
