Five Big Time Movies Coming Out This Year that You Probably Don't Know Anything About

Of course you know about the big heavy hitting blockbusters coming out this year like Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, but there are many more movies coming out that could sneak up on you as they are released. To help stay you in the know, I have compiled a list of what I feel are the most underhyped (so far) releases of the year that you will absolutely want to see.

Yelp Seattle Review of the Day!

Yelp is a great website for reading and posting reviews of businesses and also offers a great social network with fun events hosted by Yelp and its community members. G.I. Joe: Retaliation - Movie Review

After a less than successful debut, the Real American Heroes return to the big screen reloading with a bigger cast, more explosive special effects, and a story that sees the evil forces of Cobra looking to take over the world yet again. With the addition of The Rock, Bruce Willis, and Adrianne Palicki to the cast, director Jon M. Chu attempts to revitalize a potentially heroic action franchise with G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Two Oh Six Events: UYBC - Georgetown

Time to mark your calendars, the UYBC returns to Georgetown on Friday, April 19th for another round of delicious food, awesome drinks, and general mayhem. Focusing on neighborhoods in and around the city of Seattle, this event series gives everyone a great opportunity to see new places, visit old favorites, and hang out with a constantly changing group of friends over the course of one fun-filled night.

Pacific Rim is Coming!

If you are not aware of how mind blowingly awesome Pacific Rim is going to be then all you really need to know is that Guillermo del Toro made the movie and it features giant robots fighting giant monsters.

Do you really need to know any more than that?!

Two Oh Six: Best of 2012 - Movies and Actors

For me, 2012 was the first full year of writing movie reviews and it was also a year where I was able to watch more movies than I ever have before. From midnight premiers at the Cinerama to film festival screenings in theaters all over Seattle, I took in as many as I possibly could and wrote a review for almost every single one.

Of course, there are always movies that stand out as exceptional experiences and acting performances that shine through as remarkable achievements and this is where you will find my list of the ones that stood out above all the others throughout the past year.

Ginger and Rosa - Move Review

Ginger and Rosa is an intimate look at the lives of two teenage girls as they grow up in 1960's London during a time when it seemed like the world could end at any moment. Elle Fanning and newcomer Alice Englert bring these characters to life as directed by Sally Potter.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - Movie Review

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is the latest comedic vehicle for Steve Carell and this time around he brings along Steve Buscemi, Jim Carey, and Olivia Wilde for a ride through the competitive world of Las Vegas' performing magicians. First time director movie Don Scardino brings his expertise to the big screen after years of working on television shows like 30 Rock, Cosby, and Law and Order.

Olympus Has Fallen - Movie Review

Olympus Has Fallen stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, and Morgan Freeman in an action packed thriller that has an invading force looking to take down the most protected building in the world. Director Antoine Fuqua has a diverse resume that includes movies like Training Day, King Arthur, and Brooklyn's Finest, although this might be his most ambitious effort yet.

The Croods - Movie Review

Dreamworks Animation continues to raise the bar for animated features with their newest feature film titled The Croods. Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds provide their voice talents to help create a prehistoric three dimensional adventure like you've never seen before.

Spring Breakers - Movie Review

Spring Breakers is the latest crazy concoction from director Harmony Korine. The man has helped to create some very interesting movies including Kids, Gummo, and Mister Lonely and this one falls right in line with the rest. James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens star in what might be the strangest spring break movie ever made.

The Call - Movie Review

Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin star in The Call, a movie about a 911 operator who takes a call from a kidnapped girl and does everything she can to save her. Director Brad Anderson has a resume filled with thrillers and horror movies like Transsiberian and The Machinist and he throws all the standard tricks into his newest effort.

Stoker - Movie Review

Director Chan-wook Park is known for creating scenes filled with stark images that are in direct contrast with the stories that fall more into a film noir sensibility. Stoker is a tale of revenge filled with so many twists and turns, you may not realize who's out to get who until its too late.
Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Jacki Weaver, and Matthew Goode star in one of the stranger movies you will see this year.

Girl Rising - Movie Review

Directed by Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins, Girl Rising is a documentary that explores the plight of young women around the world as they dream of obtaining nothing more than a basic education. Narrated by some of Hollywood's most prominent women, this is the story of nine young ladies that will change how you look at the world.

Oz the Great and Powerful - Movie Review

Oz the Great and Powerful is a return to that magical land of fairy tale characters that generations of fans have adored for decades. With Sam Raimi at the helm delivering his signature style and a cast featuring James Franco, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz, Disney Studios hopes to have audiences amazed at the spectacle that unfolds before their eyes.

Dead Man Down - Movie Review

Dead Man Down hits theaters with the promise of riveting action and intense drama and features a cast that includes heavy hitters like Collin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, and Terrence Howard. Director Niels Arden Oplev hopes this latest revenge thriller will capture audiences like his original adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

My 3-Day Adventure at the 2013 Emerald City Comicon

After spending three days at the 2013 Emerald City Comicon, I was left with some really cool memories and lots of photos. After each day, I created a blog post that featured pictures of people in their crazy cool costumes as well as quotes, pictures, and videos from the celebrity guests that were at the event and lots of other fun stuff.

Sunday was the third and unfortunately final day of the Emerald City Comicon, but it would hold the distinction of bringing me face to face with one of the true icons of both the super hero and science fiction worlds. This would truly be a day to remember and not just for having to wait two hours in an autograph line or for not being able to find an empty seat in an overfilled auditorium.

Have you seen all the cool movie posters that have been coming out for Iron Man 3? These character specific posters are all pretty awesome and especially the one featuring Tony Stark himself. Make sure to pay close attention to what's going on in the background for a little bit of insight on what the future has in store for the one and only Iron Man.

The Place Beyond The Pines - Movie Review

The Place Beyond the Pines is the second combined effort by director Derek Cianfrance and lead actor Ryan Gosling, the first being the heart breaking love story, Blue Valentine. Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, and Rose Byrne also star in a story about a group of individuals who cross paths as they struggle with their careers, family, and the legacies they will leave behind.

Snitch - Movie Review

When its noted that a movie is "based on a true story", you should definitely take that as a very loose definition. Sure, Snitch is rooted in fact, but director Ric Roman Waugh also pushes those boundaries quite a bit to turn an interesting story in to what becomes a more thrilling adventure involving drug cartels and highb speed car chases.

Bryan Singer is best known for directing the first three X-Men movies which were all wildly successful entries into the cinematic super hero genre.
