Rock of Ages - Movie Review
"Rock of Ages" is a musical production set during the tail end of the 1980's hair metal, rock era that includes none other than Tom Cruise in a featured role along with a star studded ensemble cast. I know, right now you're thinking...what the heck is going on here!

Roller Town (SIFF 2012) - Movie Review
"Roller Town" is a 70's throwback movie set during the time when video game arcades began to take over roller skating rinks as the national past time of teenagers everywhere. The movie stars members of a Canadian comedy troupe called Picnicface and was directed by Andrew Bush.

Snow White and the Huntsman - Movie Review
From the moment the first trailer debuted for "Snow White and the Huntsman", the excitement meter was stuck on high as it looked like Universal was taking a story that people primarily know from the classic Disney animated feature and giving it a darker, more action-packed vibe. Oh, and people also wondered what that chick from Twilight was doing in this awesome looking movie.
Xingu (SIFF 2012) - Movie Review
"Xingu" is based on the true story of three brothers looking for adventure who end up changing the course of Brazilian history. Told in dramatic fashion with an emphasis on sweeping visuals that make the jungles as much of a character in the story as any of the people, this movie draws its audience in to the story and makes everyone feel like they are part of a truly historic experience.

Kong Curling (SIFF 2012) - Movie Review
"Kong Curling" is a Norwegian movie that centers around a competitive curling team and the personal struggles they must overcome to maintain their reign as the kings of one of the world's most unique sports.
That may sound like a really odd backdrop for a gripping drama, but this tale is actually a comedy that has no shortage whatsoever of hilarious moments to go alongside what is actually a very heart warming story.

As Luck Would Have It (SIFF 2012) Movie Review
This was a late addition to my SIFF schedule and I'm glad I was able to check it out. "La Chispa de la Vida" aka "As Luck Would Have It" is part drama, part comedy, part social commentary, and part satire which can really be a deadly combination if not done well.

Battleship - Movie Review
Since it was first announced that the classic board game "Battleship" would be turned in to a major motion picture, people wondered just what type of story could possibly be written to justify a full length feature film.

Safety Not Guaranteed (SIFF 2012) - Movie Review
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this movie since I knew very little about it other than reading a brief synopsis and watching the trailer a few times. The use of time travel as a plot device in a small film like this was still very intriguing so I was certainly excited about the possibilities.
Also, there's the fact that this film was not only set in Washington, but the whole thing was filmed in and around the greater Seattle area which means you should go see it for no other reason than to support a locally produced movie. Oh, and its also really good.

Headshot (SIFF 2012) - Movie Review
This review features the first film that I watched during the 2012 Seattle International Film Festival and it turned out to be a great way to set the tone for what was still to come. Directed by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and billed as a crime noir, "Headshot" tells the story of a man who literally has his world turned upside down.

Dark Shadows - Movie Review
Its become pretty standard for Tim Burton to make a highly stylized film featuring dark and mysterious characters played by the likes of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter so there should be a certain comfort level for audiences when viewing "Dark Shadows". I expected it to be quirky, dark, humorous, and a little off and for the most part that's about what I got, although more of one than I was actually hoping for.

Chocolate (2008) - Movie Review

Yes, you've seen Tony Jaa in movies like Ong Bak and The Protector and he has blown you away with his high flying and brutal Muy Thai martial arts abilities. Prachya Pinkaew, the same director that made Ong Bak, also gave audiences "Chocolate", starring the amazing JeeJa Yanin, which I believe is actually a far superior movie.

Antihero - Movie Review
"AntiHero" is an independent film directed by Joseph Weindl that was awarded Best Feature from the Columbia Gorge International Film Festival and also found its way in to both the Guam International Film Festival and Seattle's True Independent Film Festival.
It is a Sci-Fi, adventure, comedy filled with hilarious scenes that will have you laughing at how absurd, yet strangely familiar they are. Filmed on a budget of $8,000, the cast and crew get every penny's worth out of their effort to produce 84 minutes of entertainment you won't soon forget.

The Avengers - Movie Review
People have been waiting for this movie for years...decades even. The anticipation has been building ever since the first Iron Man movie came out and we first heard Samuel L Jackson as Sgt. Nick Fury say the words, "I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger initiative".
He wasn't just talking to Tony Stark in that post credits scene, he was talking to all of us. Now, after five movies featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes on their own, Marvel Comics, Paramount Pictures, and writer/director Joss Whedon has given us...The Avengers.

New Prometheus Trailer Debuts!
With some major movies coming out this summer like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spider Man, there's bound to be a few that fall through the cracks. Prometheus is not getting the same amount of attention as those tent pole releases, but it may just turn out to be the best of them.
20th Century Fox has released a brand new full length "International Launch Trailer" on YouTube that will blow you away. I am really hoping this trailer plays in front of The Avengers this weekend along with the huge trailer debut that I recently posted about.

On the poster above it says "The Best Action Movie in Decades". While that is extremely high praise, I would also personally have to rank "The Raid: Redemption" as one of the most entertaining martial arts movies I have ever seen.

The Cabin in the Woods - Movie Review
Unfortunately, "The Cabin in the Woods" had been stuck sitting on a proverbial shelf for a couple years while Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was dealing with bankruptcy issues and other financial woes. The film eventually ended up in the good hands of Lionsgate Studios which allowed co-creators Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon to finally release their love letter to the horror movie genre and wow, was it worth the wait!

American Reunion - Movie Review
Everyone has movies they love watching over and over because they can be like visiting with old friends. On the other hand, watching the same movie can also be like that visiting with that one friend who always tells you the same stories again and again when what you really want is to hear something new.
Fortunately, the American Pie franchise has continued to churn out new movies featuring all the guys and girls you have watched over the years and American Reunion brings back just about everyone from the original for more crazy hi-jinks and hilariously embarrassing comedy.
