The Story: Civil War soldier-turned-bounty-hunter faces haunting past while helping two desperate children find their missing mother.

The Review:
Michael Feifer has had an extremely prolific career as a director with over 60 credits under his name in the last 15 years which is an average of four per year! Even with all of that work under his belt, I still feel like this movie was quite an ambitious project. I mean, it's almost two and a half hours of classic 70's-80's style Western film making with all the fixins and plenty of pistols and hats to go around. The story is a post civil war tale of men who are using whatever power they have to carve out a place for themselves in an open country that is fair game for anyone with the ambition to take it.

Feifer fills the cast with actors who look the part and gives them all the cowboy swagger and dialog you might expect from a throwback type of movie like this. The story telling is definitely more old school John Wayne with a little bit of Eastwood's Unforgiven thrown in for good measure. At the beginning I was honestly a bit confused with so many different characters being introduced and it wasn't until well into the movie that we get to see Val Kilmer or AnnaLynne McCord although, once they arrive, it's definitely worth the wait.

Once all the dust settles from the first act, Neal Bledsoe takes center stage as a world weary man who is forced to deal with a whole bunch of stuff that resurfaces from his past in a way that tests who he has become and gives him an opportunity to right a few wrongs. A Soldier's Revenge is a throwback to those dusty and drawn out dramatic Westerns of yesteryear so if you're feeling a bit nostalgic for that sort of thing, you might want to wrangle this movie up and give it a whirl.
