1986 - 2020 Slamdance Movie Review

The Movie: 1986

The Director: Lothar Herzog

The Cast: Aleksey Filimonov, Khelga Filippova, Vitaliy Kotovitskiy

The Story: Elena is a student in Minsk, Belarus. When her father is arrested, she has to continue his illegal business.

The Review:
I was hoping this would be an intense crime thriller filled with lots of crime thriller type things. What I ended up watching was a plodding narrative that failed to generate any intensity and didn't give me much of a reason to stay engaged with the story or the characters. There's a troubled relationship story that the main character has to deal with and I felt like it took away from what should have been the focus of the story which was the father/daughter angle. That's all I've got for this one.

1986 is an official selection of the 2020 Slamdance Film Festival.
