Honeyland - Documentary Review

The Documentary: Honeyland

The Directors: Tamara Kotevska, Ljubomir Stefanov

The Story: The last female bee-hunter in Europe must save the bees and return the natural balance in Honeyland, when a family of nomadic beekeepers invade her land and threaten her livelihood.

The Review:
I had been hearing nothing but amazing things about this documentary, a film that explores the journey of a woman who is struggling to maintain her livelihood while surrounded by adversity. It was really interesting to watch the daily struggles and successes play out although the story plays out in a very predictable way which, to me, took away any of the intended drama.

On the plus side, the movie looks great with amazing backdrops and stunning topography all filmed in a way that really showcases the beauty of Macedonia's landscapes. I tried to like this documentary and I can see why others do, the story just didn't really do anything for me.
