Good Kisser - SIFF 2019 Movie Review

The Movie: Good Kisser

The Director: Wendy Jo Carlton

The Cast: Rachel Paulson, Kari Alison Hodge, Julia Eringer, Carter Rodriquez, Courtney McCullough

The Story: Jenna agrees to a sexy weekend fling with materialistic girlfriend Kate and the worldly Mia. As the night unfolds, Jenna realizes she’s bitten off more than she can chew, and the love triangle begins to crack.

The Review:
What I liked most about this movie was the intimate awkwardness and the stumbling authenticity that you don't normally find in a sex fueled comedy but then again this movie really doesn't fit any of the norms you might be expecting anyway. Wendy Jo Carlton's latest creation is very intentional in giving the audience something different but showing it in a way that is so relatable and familiar that you can't help but get emotionally invested.

Almost the entire movie is set inside of one location although it was super fun as a long time Seattleite to see lots of familiar views and roadways and environments during the times that Carlton does explore the outside world. Between the locations, the cast, and the story, this movie just felt very Seattle in a lot of different ways and I loved that the ending isn't exactly what you might expect, but you quickly realize that it couldn't have ended any other way.

Good Kisser is an official selection of the 2019 Seattle International Film Festival.
