Under the Tree (Undir trénu) - SIFF 2018 Capsule Review

The Movie: Under the Tree (Undir trénu)

The Director: Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson

The Cast: Steinþór Hróar Steinþórsson, Edda Björgvinsdóttir, Sigurður Sigurjónsson, Lára Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, Þorsteinn Bachmann, Selma Björnsdóttir, Dóra Jóhannsdóttir, Sigríður Sigurpálsdóttir Scheving

The Story: When Baldwin and Inga's next door neighbors complain that a tree in their backyard casts a shadow over their sundeck, what starts off as a typical spat between neighbors in the suburbs unexpectedly and violently spirals out of control.

The Review:
I was hoping this would be an all out crazy comedy with escalating hi-jinks from start to finish. While it turned out to be a funny film, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It almost seems like two different movies are happening at the same time with the warring neighbors and the son trying to save his marriage. If you like your comedies dark and twisted then Under the Tree is for you.

Under the Tree is an official selection of the 2018 Seattle International Film Festival.
