Jungle Trap (SIFF 2017) - Movie Review

The Movie: Jungle Trap

The Director: James Bryan

The Cast: Renee Harmon, Frank Neuhaus, Heidi Ahn, Tim de Haas, Bill Luce, Jan Vanderberg

The Story: Jungle Trap is a decapitation-fueled, shot-on-video horror masterpiece about a jungle hotel haunted by kill-crazy ghosts in loin cloths.

The Review:
If you are of age to remember going to the video store and spending endless amounts of time searching the VHS shelves in hopes of finding a hidden gem or some random cheesy film that looked so bad, it was too irresistible not to watch then this movie will definitely bring back a few fond memories. Director James Bryan used VHS as his format of choice for this movie due to it being the cheapest option available so it has that classic and unmistakable grainy, fuzzy look and feel to it.

The whole thing was shot in a back yard and a relative's house that was going up for sale so this is low budget film making at it's finest. After literally sitting hidden away unfinished in a barn on Bryan's property for many years, the team at Bleeding Skull found it, pieced it together, and added a retro modern soundtrack in an effort to get it out there for people to enjoy. The end result is a nostalgic ride through the bottom end of the B-movie VHS era and that's really about the extent of the entertainment value.

Jungle Trap is an official selection of the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival.
