Transpecos (SIFF 2016) - Movie Review

The Movie: Transpecos

The Director: Greg Kwedar

The Cast: Johnny Simmons, Gabriel Luna, Clifton Collins Jr, David Acord, Oscar Avila, Luis Bordonada, Will Brittain, Jake Lockett, and Lora Martinez-Cunningham

The Story: For three US Border Patrol agents, the contents of one car reveal an insidious plot within their own ranks. The next 24 hours could cost them their lives.

The Review:
Director Greg Kwedar, who also co-wrote this story with Clint Bentley, has put together a tension filled drama that focuses on three border patrol guards who struggle with the reality of corruption within their ranks. The story itself is set along a desolate and dusty desert highway which adds to the sense of isolation and desperation that eventually envelopes the three border patrol guards, played by Johnny Simmons, Diego Luna, and Clifton Collins Jr. The interaction between the three men is easily the highlight of the production as each brings a very distinct voice and personality to their character and they do a great job of playing off of each other as the story unfolds.

The Verdict:
Transpecos is a tightly woven and tension filled thriller that is absolutely worth the effort. The twists and turns are only topped by the trio of actors who elevate the story to must see status.
