SIFF is Coming!

The Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) is almost here so I figured it was time to give a little preview of what you can expect during this year's event. The entire lineup of features, shorts, and documentaries will be released on Thursday, May 3rd, but today I can give you a few examples of the movies you will not want to miss.

There will be about 270 feature films and 180 short films with over 700 total screenings split between several Seattle area movie houses including the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown and the SIFF Film Center. Other venues include the AMC Pacific Place 11 in downtown Seattle and the Harvard Exit and Egyptian theaters on Capitol Hill.

Similar to last year, the SIFF website will break down the movies in to "pathways" that give you a road map for navigating the sheer volume of options that are available. Below is a list of the pathways which gives you a pretty good idea of what you will find by how they are named.

  • I Didn't Know That!
  • Thrill Me
  • Make Me Laugh
  • Creative Streak
  • Give Me Drama!
  • Love Me, Do!
  • Show Me the World
  • To the Extreme
  • Face the Music
  • Sci-Fi and Beyond

This year the Opening Night Gala features a screening of Your Sister's Sister which was directed by local film maker Lynn Shelton who will be on hand at the event for both the screening and the exclusive after party. You can purchase tickets for this event  HERE.

Here is a list of other films that should be crowd favorites based on what I have seen so far. Some have links to trailers where available.

Of course, this is a very small sample of the amazing variety of movies that will be available during the nearly month-long festival, but I thought this would give you a good taste of what you can expect. There will also be a special screening of Disney/Pixar's "Brave" during the festival that will take place just prior to the movie's release date.

This year looks to be a banner year for SIFF with more movies than ever before and most of them being shown in SIFF's very own theaters. Individual tickets will be on sale soon, but you can purchase various passes and special event tickets now. CLICK HERE to get yours.

I will be looking to put together a few "Two Oh Six Movie Crew" events over the course of the festival so watch for those and I'll also be posting updates and reviews for the movies and events I am able to attend.
