Insidious: The Last Key - Movie Review

The Movie: Insidious: The Last Key

The Director: Adam Robitel

The Cast: Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Kirk Acevedo, Caitlin Gerard, Spencer Locke, Bruce Davison, Javier Botet, Ava Kolker, Pierce Pope, Aleque Reid

The Story: Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet - in her own family home.

The Review:
This franchise has definitely been hit or miss with me over the years. The first one, I didn't like. The second one, I really liked. The third one I don't remember what it was about. This fourth installment takes things in a very different direction by taking the paranormal action and putting it right smack into the depths of Elise's childhood home and explains why she has been able to tap into "the further" all these years. Lin Shaye does a fine job in the lead role as she always has and her cohorts in the movie, played as always by Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell, are as entertaining as ever.

Adam Robitel has had a lot of experience with the horror genre as an actor, writer, and director and he uses that experience to great effect in this installment of the franchise. There are plenty of jump scares and tension filled moments, one of which had my friend closing her eyes in anticipation of what was about to happen. The rest of the audience I sat with seemed fully engaged and into the film from start to finish which is always a good sign.

The Verdict:
Insidious: The Last Key is a solid entry into the franchise and probably my second favorite of the four. The movie does exactly what you want it to without taking any crazy risks and the end result is very satisfying.
