Wonder - Movie Review

The Movie: Wonder

The Director: Stephen Chbosky

The Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Izabela Vidovic, Mandy Patinkin, Noah Jupe, Bryce Gheisar, Elle McKinnon, Daveed Diggs, Millie Davis, Ali Liebert, Danielle Rose Russell

The Story: Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.

The Review:
Based on the best selling book written by R. J. Palacio, Stephen Chbosky brings the story to life in a fun, whimsical way that allows the viewer to just sit back and enjoy. The story is very well thought out and shows several different perspectives as it takes turns focusing on a few of the primary characters. What elevates the film even further is the roster of talent brought on board to fill each of the roles. I don't know if you could have asked for a better ensemble.

At the top of this list is the young and impressively talented Jacob Tremblay who burst onto the scene with his performance in Room and has quickly made a name for himself within the acting community. Playing his mom, Julia Roberts is just fantastic although I'm not sure if it's her acting ability or just how amazingly likable she is although I imagine it has to be both. Owen Wilson checks in as the dad who is there as both a voice of reason and as a bit of perfectly time comic relief. Other standout performances from from Izabela Vidovic as Auggie's sister and Mandy Patinkin as the school's principle.

The Verdict:
Wonder is tailor made to be the type of heartfelt tearjerker that would have audiences applauding on their way out of the theater and that's exactly what it accomplishes. Definitely a movie you want to watch just make sure to remember the tissues, you're going to need them.
