Kingsman: The Golden Circle - Movie Review

The Movie: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

The Director: Matthew Vaughn

The Cast: Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Mark Strong, Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Edward Holcroft, Michael Gambon, Sophie Cookson, Hanna Alström

The Story: When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, the Kingsman's journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US. These two elite secret organizations must band together to defeat a common enemy.

The Review:
After the success of Kingsman, The Secret Service, I was hoping it wouldn't take long for a sequel and, once it was officially announced, I couldn't wait to see what Matthew Vaughn had in store for the franchise. The over the top, highly stylized nature of the first film would of course be kicked up a few notches so the key would be maintaining a story that could hold serve with how good the first one was. After being the man behind Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, I had no doubt that Vaughn would be able to come through and that faith has been rewarded with a fun and fast paced action movie.

Vaughn manages to keep things just on the edge of credibility and, even though the action is always a bit over the top, it all fits nicely with the overall tone of the movie. The fight scenes are very stylized and take a lot of inspiration from high flying martial arts movies as well as the comic book universe the franchise was drawn from. Favorite characters return from the first installment led by Taron Egerton as Eggsy along with Mark Strong as Merlin and Colin Firth as Harry aka Galahad and newcomers played by Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, and Pedro Pascal are added to the mix. Julianne Moore checks in as a psychopathic villain who fills her character with a sunny disposition that is as unnerving as it is entertaining.

The Verdict:
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is a fun action movie that pushes the franchise forward and pretty much guarantees that we will get to see more from both the Kingsman and Statesman organizations somewhere down the road.
