Seahawks Lose to the Bengals - My Thoughts

Frustrating loss for the Seahawks today. Not sure why Jackson didn't get the start, he seemed fine after coming in for the ineffective Whitehurst. Defense still played well, but the offense couldn't run, receivers dropped way too many passes, and the special teams gave up the game clinching score.

I have mentioned before that this defense is ready to win now and is a very entertaining group to watch. Unfortunately that only goes so far when the losses continue to pile up because the offense can't get out of its own way. Guys like Red Bryant, Earl Thomas, and Chris Clemmons are huge contributors on their side of the ball, but can only do so much when they are forced to spend way too much time on the field.

Today was another one of those games that rebuilding teams go through. It's tough to watch your team experience growing pains and make inexcusable mistakes that lead to losses. What makes matters worse is there is really no chance to win the division like last year with San Francisco playing as well as they are. Hopefully the Hawks will be able to turn that corner like the 49ers, Lions, and Bills have done.

I keep hearing and seeing way too many comments about how the Hawks should try to lose so they can draft quarterback Andrew Luck out of Stanford which to me doesn't make any sense at all. Sure, it would be fun on draft day to say we got him, but who knows if he will ever live up to the hype. The 49ers have waited six years for a can't miss QB to pan out and Alex Smith is just now starting to realize some of the promise he showed coming out of Utah.

Just because there's a catchy slogan ("Suck for Luck"...really?) doesn't mean its a good idea to lose games. It's never a good idea to try and lose especially when you might end up with Tim Couch, David Carr, or JaMarcus Russell. Even though it may be fun for fantasy football style thinking, it just doesn't make sense from an overall business perspective of a major sports franchise.

The Seahawks organization has a plan and that does not involve losing games, but unfortunately it will happen more often than not this year. Hopefully the players on the field can step up to at least be competitive instead of showing us the poor excuses for games we have seen the last two weeks.
